There are three months out of the year that are considered the best time to visit Phitsanulok, and those are April, June, then skipping a few months and then going in November. However, many visitors come to Phitsanulok in January so that they can take part in the Wat Phra Sri Rattana Mahathat fair during which the Phra Buddha Chinnarat is not only honored but downright feted.
On days that are simply considered too hot to be outdoors, many find solace from the heat by going to The Buddha Chinnarat National Museum. There one may while away cooler hours looking through the wonderful and very sizeable collection of period art that goes back to the Sukhothai period.
The cooler nighttime and evening temperatures will often tempt those who relish seeing the city but are simply too warm or tired from other expeditions. The solution is of course to flag an empty rickshaw or a Sam Raw, which is the name of those three wheeled bicycles you’ll see zipping around. The ride is somewhat cool as there is some wind created as your driver exerts himself to zip you around. Many find the trip to be very romantic too.
You may also find that you will be kept naturally cool by visiting the tremendously gorgeous waterfalls that are found in many of the natural parks in Phitsanulok. Should you find yourself fin Phitsanulok during October, you will find all manner of entertainment being available. Tjese include boat races as well as boat processions.
